hahahhaha you talk too much and think too far into the unknown. Detective xiao is a character in this chinesepod broadcast series.

So, you have to think about the kind of storyline the chinesepod folk are trying to set up.

It will have generic twists in turns in the plot. (ie, however so far we can only determine that detective Li is influenced my the mafia negatively or positively, of course it will turn out that he is corrupt, because that is a more interesting plot twist. we'll eventually hear something like, "haha, so the student has become the master" or something towards the end, when Xiao confronts Li.)

I solved the case !

Detective Li is covering for the HeiSheHui!

The reason the weapon wasn't found on the scene is because the murderer took it with him when he left. (if the assistant did it, he couldn't have gotten rid of the weapon without leaving the scene.)

The assistant saw the murderer, or has some information, but can't say for fear of his life !

Detective Li is blaming the assistant to cover-up the real culprit !

-That is why Li did not go directly to the scene. He had to make a phone-call to make sure he knew what to expect when he arrived on scene!

which means that Li is being influenced by the HeiSheHui, either negatively or positively!

a bussinessman was murdered, which hints at $$$, but anyways these sorts of HeiSheHui murders only have two motives in mind: money and power !

If Li is negatively influenced (forced) by the HeiSheHui to cover-up for them, then detective Xiao will save him!

If Li is positively influenced (corrupted) by the HeiSheHui, detective Xiao will replace him!

-I'm so good
