Maybe the bicycle rider saw someone wearing pajamas outside on the streets of Shanghai, in spite of the pajama police,  causing him to crash.

Here is an article on how wearing pajamas outside in Shanghai could be a class thing, http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/evanosnos/2009/12/long-live-pajamas.html

About the discussion of 女儿/ 'ér daughter above in the thread.  The last line in the movie "Eat Drink Man Woman" is 女儿/nu er.  It is very significant in the movie.

I just did a look up on the character and not only is it ma, the question, but it is also ma3/morphine. Anybody morphine.

How about 有人吗 吗  Anybody have morphine?

What about horse ma3/horse/ , and the horse character is part of the ma3/morphine/?/吗 character.  The mystery that is Chinese - no need for Halloween

Two years ago I had the option of taking an "overnight train" from Beijing to Rizhao.  Would that have been a dongche or a tekuai? I ended up flying.

Good luck Pete.  You added a dimension to ChinesePod that will be hard to replace.

>I checked the PDF, it's OK. Try it again pls!

There was a discussion of this ealier in the thread where I said I coudn't read some fonts in the Menu Stealer pdf files on my windows machines. frognotinawell said this was because I did not have the latest version of pdf reader.  I upgraded and frognotinawell was right.  I think it is better that the pdf files be built so they are somwhat backward compatible.

My favorite explanation of the r sound and the friggin retroflexes is the Pinyin Pirates video by the Two Chinese Charaters, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsDIEyrUoJk&feature=channel_page

Revisiiting things like this is good, You pickup things you missed before and things you forgot.

infusiastic

I work on windows machines (three of them) so for all I know DMJACJ+MyriadPro_Regular is standard on a Mac. I thought "Oh Great, now I stated something" so I went to adobe.com and found that I could buy MyriadPro_Regular for $35 - I choose not to.

I have no problem with the dialogue pdf files I assume because the fonts are more standard.  It is only with the menu stealer pdfs that I had problems but previously I just clicked through the error message and believe I saw what I needed to see.  On this pdf I do not see any English translations, but then maybe there are not suppose to be any. It could also be a browser specific problem - firefox v3.0.10

On the other hand these menu stealer pdf files are nicely formatted.

I am ready to leave this as one of those eternal mysteries. It is a great series.

I don't want to be a nitpicker but a problem with the menu stealer pdf files all along is that when the files are built they use fonts that a lot of us don't have on our machines so they don't read. This is the first one that I can't read whole sections of.  For example, when I try to open the pdf file I am told I do not have DMJACJ+MyriadPro_Regular, so I cannot read the pdf file and I probably won't take the time to fine the fonts. This a big reason I don't like pdf files generally. A cause of the problem could be that the files were built on a Mac and these are not standard Windows fonts.

Sorry about bringing this up. It is a great series and video.
