September 4, 2007 at 1:23 PMWhat's also confusing is it seems that 集 (jí) can refer to both individual parts, e.g. 上集 / 下集, first/last part, 第一季, first episode, or the whole, e.g. 剧集 (jùjí) drama series.

September 3, 2007 at 12:28 PMShort confirmation email from the hotel+vocab: ⅩⅩⅩ 先生:您好! I guess 预定 also means 'reserved'. 保留 (bǎoliú) keep; reserve - hotel will keep the room 至 (zhì) until 18:00 抵达 (dǐdá) v. reach; arrive

September 3, 2007 at 7:28 AMThis isa very appropriate lesson to me, though I only remembered to check it out after the fact :-( I had a few email exchanges with the 锦江之星 (JinJiang) chain in 上海, I just got confirmation of the 标准房 I booked (269 人民币 1 间) as they didn't have 商务间 available. They have a very comprehensive website listing all their locations, services, transport facilities, interactive map, with Chinese and English version. Much better than motel168 for which I saw some negative feedback, we'll see what rooms and service are like, but they advertised free wireless internet access. I had trouble booking online because they required a local cellphone number, but email worked perfectly.
Posted on: Applying For a Visa
September 5, 2007 at 11:39 AMJust noticed on that in the UK, Chinese visa fees are different depending on nationality, highest for Americans, lowest for non-British?! As I am going to attend CeBit-Asia, I asked them to send me an invitation letter so I can apply for an F-visa (business) but they passed it on to a service provider that wanted to charge me $100 (USD) so I'll be quite happy with a L-visa (旅客). What's the implication of an F-Visa anyway (访问?). Also, I was thinking of using ChinesePod as contact on the visa form, would this be a problem?
