those Western names don't even seem to bear any resemblance with the original Chinese names, often sound like they're straight out of (American)-TV series. I know a 伊琳 (Yīlín) called Jessie, not sure why she didn't choose Eileen!

BTW, how do you say 'subtle' - in Europe I think you can't openly 拍马屁, if you want to 夸 your boss it's best to be a little less 明显 (míngxiǎn) about it, even 狡滑 (jiǎohuá) cunning

李管理 got acquainted with the 忍者 when he got abducted by 外星人 / aliens in his childhood, his friends didn't believe him so he wanted to 教训 / teach them a lesson, nothing to do with Peter or 加拿大 really

peiruifu, one of the translations Wenlin/ABC has for 后顾 (hòugù) is think of future, so 忧后顾, worry about the future, makes sense. nicolas, how come living in Shanghai you don't have many occasions to practice your Chinese? I don't get it.

这是谁的照片, isn't it one of these cases where meaning depends on the context ?

according to the ABC dict., 且 represents 'a picture of shelves, or of a small table. The character was borrowed to represent a conjunction with a similar pronunciation.' but in 姐 (jiě), it's just the phonetic component (qiě)
