December 15, 2012 at 12:58 AMGreat idea for a lesson.
Now I was thinking of having a lesson that compares Chinese idea of cutesy and girly and how that is completely and totally creepy in the US. Just an example:
Adult woman pouting and stamping there feet like a 5 year old or boys being obliged to hold a girlfriends bag the whole time they are together.
Then there is the gratingly annoying whiny sound that grown woman make when they are upset or trying to change your mind that seems a bit immature to us in the West.

November 2, 2012 at 12:42 PMWell interesting lesson but still have that annoying sounding woman whose whine is as a as grating as a small child who is pouting.
Why is it in life I never hear this horrible sound that is almost as bad as the brakes on ebikes. It only shows up on advertising and silly Chinese comedy sitcoms.
It makes the lesson hard to listen too since the voice the this woman reminds me of a whiny child and not a woman. So irritating!

October 23, 2012 at 12:06 AMAhh yes, American Chinese restaurants always have soy souce on the tables and give tiny packets of soy sauce with every take-out meal they deliver. They often give so much that some people end up with drawers in their kitchen filled with the extra soy sauce packets that they don't want to waste but will never use.

September 6, 2012 at 11:46 PMYes BBS was the precursor to MSN and QQ
I used it almost 20 years ago when I first got internet and found that you could chat online using primitive lines of text. I think it was called Bulletin Board Service.

Posted on: The Tea Scam
June 1, 2012 at 12:47 AMWow, This lesson should be required for all new-comers. I was tricked by 2 well-dressed students who took me to a Tea house in BJ on my first trip to China. I felt something was not right so I only drank 2 sips and they said I had to pay for their drinks but it was only 100 RMB. It was not till later I found out that "Tea Tastings" are free.

Nice ot meet your husband Hank at the meet up last week
I thought only the older lessons had the Ni3 Hao3 type of tone demarcation on the lyrics function on my iphone
Am I right to assume (uhh oh scary word) that only the CD quality will have the actual tones marked on them like Nǐ hǎo?

January 17, 2013 at 2:11 AMNow there are websites for Gay men and Lesbians to meet and get married. It seems like one way to satisfy the societal needs and not have to cheat a straight person out of a real marriage. I have a male friend who has decided to get married to a lesbian as a way to placate his parents and relatives. Two years later they still seems to get along great having seperate love lives but doing social things as a couple.
