I thought xiang yao was used in ordering something as in a restaurant.

Joe, you mentioned Mansion and I know this is a bit far from the topic but it has always perplexed me when I see buildings in China called "something mansion" on its name plate on the front. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Mansion a large residence with no commercial use at all?

I have talked to a few friends about the way the female voice listed as D sounds whiny and grating on the nerves. Chinese think it sounds normal Westerners think she sounds weird.

It is so bad I avoid listening to all the lessons with her in it because I can only hear this horrible child like voice and not what she is saying.

I would love to hear from anyone about weather this is a culture clash or a personal indiosyncracy.

I looked through all of the lessons on workouts and gyms and it seems that most are geared to women.

It would be great to have an intermediate or upper intermediate that talks about the actual muscle groups (pec, lat, abs, etc) and workout routines in a bit more detail. Maybe some names of specific exercises like bench (chest) press, squats, curls, etc.

I see a pattern here which seems to pointing out the irony in the fact that the very same people who are obsessed with having the windows open to get fresh air are the same ones who say nothing to smokers who sit next to them at dinners and meetings.

I am from Los Angeles and I can tell that Shanghai air quality is worse. I have read warnings from Chinese doctors that the air quality here can cause all kinds of health problems. There seems to be another kind of disconnect from reality going on here when my coworkers say they want to open the windows to some get fresh air.

Did you know that Ipad will not recognize a character if you use the wrong stroke order.

Just when I thought I was able to write simple characters by cheating on the stroke order

I find myself being monitored by a technological "Big Brother". I guess I really need to study those darn books with the 50 blocks in them for practice.

Well Jenny I agree that nobody, among the foreign teachers I know, likes what Chinese eat for breakfast.

I think you are talking to a rarified group here who profess to like what Chinese call breakfast. I consider myself a healthy eater so the only thing Chinese have for breakfast that I would even consider having anytime of day is dou jiang, soy milk.

Oh yes TaoBao is one of the worst offenders of busy websites and they go a step further to make things frustrating by selling spaces to be first on any search. So whey I type in used bicycles I still get tons of irrelevant crap because they paid to be on top of any search.

Look at Craigs list for simplicity
