我不会唱歌 I cannot sing, but how can I resist checking out the KTVs when I visit Shanghai next month? I'm thinking I should just embrace the experience while I'm there and go for it, right? Perhaps I'll do my rendition of "Baby Got Back" if the opportunity arises. Is that Connie providing the voice of the child?

Ken exclaiming "I'm on fire!" made me laugh. I think someone should sample that and turn it into a song. ;)

Thanks, Amber! That clears it up. I'll have to find an easy way to differentiate the two. If 你想吃什么?= "What would you like to eat?", then would it be safe to say that 你喜欢吃什么?="What do you like to eat?"

I still get mixed up as to when to use 喜欢 or 想 because they seem to be used interchangeably. I thought that perhaps one was used in reference to acquiring something (as in "I would like some noodles") while the other was use in general ("I like noodles"). But I think I'm wrong here.

I swear there was a lesson (newbie or elementary) where one of the male performers used "shi a" in the dialogue. In fact, I believe I've heard "hao a" come from a male as well. If it wasn't for today's podcast, one might think that ChinesePod was trying to subtly turn it's male subscribers into girly men! ;)

I have a superstition of my own: If I don't get my weekly dose of "Dear Amber," bad things will happen. ;)

For years, I've been hearing similar stories about Westerners without degrees who were able to find tutoring jobs in China. It's interesting to hear about the experiences of you and your guest. Amber, your podcast is quickly becoming a staple of my Fridays.

What do mainland Chinese think of Westerners with facial hair, I wonder. Is it time for me to shave off the old soup-strainer?

Whenever I see the name of this podcast, I read "rules" as a verb as in "Bike Riding Rules!" -- which it does.

Maybe Howard is not aware of the other 800 lessons to choose from. Or the fact that one can take a free trial for a week before deciding if it is worth paying for. Or the fact that you don't even need the free trial to decide since you can browse all the lessons without being logged in.
