March 18, 2008 at 2:27 AMThanks for the suggestions on where to find the Chinese dubs. Amazon China is difficult for me to navigate, but I can almost find my way around do to the resemblance to it's American counterpart. And yesasia.com doesn't seem to have the titles I expected, but I'll keep looking.

March 17, 2008 at 3:26 AMHow ironic that I have a pint of Guinness right next to me as I opened this lesson. And I'll have several more next to me in 24 hours from now -- along with my Jameson Whiskey. The last place I travelled to was Ireland and the next place will be China.

March 16, 2008 at 3:54 PMI'm having a hard time locating a website that sello Mandarin-dubbed DVDs. Any recommendations? I remember that I had to pick the region code for my iBook DVD player when I first initialized it. And from what I read, PC DVD-drives are all designed to operate in regard to the "region" where they are sold. But I can test this for real if I can just find a seller of Mandarin versions. Why are they so hard to find?

March 14, 2008 at 10:07 PMAh, I recognize this one. How fun! I've been thinking about using Mandarin-dubbed versions of familar films as a learning tool, but the DVDs don't seem to be readily available. Have other Westerners tried this? I suspect the issue regarding DVD region-code is a problem.

March 7, 2008 at 10:59 PMIs there a significance between asking: ni3 you3 bao4zhi3 ma? and ni3 you3 mei2you3 bao4zhi3? Neither seems to be preferred over the other, based on what I've learned from ChinesePod. I suspect that, as in English, there are multiple ways to ask the same thing, none of which is considered more "proper" than the others.

March 21, 2008 at 8:10 PMFun podcast today. Seems to be an abundance of apartments for rent in Shanghai. I've been utilizing the resources at shanghaiexpat.com to get a feel for apartment prices. Wasn't sure exactly what "old house" meant, but today's podcast gave me a better clue.
