Hi there,

just wanted to add a use for 哄 (hōng). You can actually  哄睡觉 (hōng shuìjiào) a kid, i.e. to get him/her to sleep by whatever means that work (reading a story, singing a song, etc.) as in:

给小宝讲故事哄睡觉

Another counter-intuitive thing I've recently been told about years when 立春 (Lichun) happens before 春节 (Chunjie):

Babies born in between are of the sign of the New Year in the Chinese Zodiac, instead of the Old Year.

For example a baby born the day before the Chinese New Year (i.e. 13 February 2010) would still be a Tiger instead of an Ox, even though (s)he was born before the start of the New Year of the Tiger.

I'd appreciate if someone from the team could confirm?

At about 16:23, Jenny says that being left-handed is not a problem for visas, as otherwise this would mean that "we would have to "SHOU" many many friends from coming to China". Did I get this SHOU right? What character is it and does it mean prevent as I assumed?

In the Expansion, I’m unclear about the word order in the sentence below:

 

人有可能是他杀的。

It's possible that it was him who killed the person.

 

Why do we start with 人? I would have thought it simpler to convey the same idea by saying:

有可能是他杀这个人。

 

Would appreciate help on that. Thanks in advance!
