October 12, 2017 at 1:21 AMAnd my other questions too... wow. such service! I had no idea John was involved in Chinese Grammar Wiki as well as Mandarin Companion - I use the wiki all the time, and i read (or, struggle through!) the MC books every night. Small world!

October 5, 2017 at 12:57 AMI agree, the newer lessons are really well presented. The old ones were still good, but noticeable improvements.
Also, off topic sorry, but Fiona I really like what you've done with your hair recently. It really suits you :)

June 30, 2017 at 4:19 AMHaha yeah she's pretty patient. Also I'm loving the new site enhancements, looking forward to the overnight maintenance when hopefully things will get a bit quicker. Keep up the good work!

June 26, 2017 at 4:30 AMIn the expansion, we have this
我叫你不要去,你为什么不听?
Translated as
"I told you not to go there, why didn't you listen?"
I'm confused by the lack of anything to indicate the past tense "told". I feel like there should be a 了 after 叫. By not having the 了 there, is it implied, maybe a more colloquial way of saying it? Or it really is not necessary?
Thanks... still trying to get my head around this damn particle!

June 23, 2017 at 3:33 AMI went to china recently armed with 一份 to use when asking for a dish or plate of something. Can you please tell me how this compares to 一道? Thanks!
