Wish everyone a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
在这里到处都也是月饼。今天已经吃四个!我觉得每个有五十热量,没有糖。:)
zài zhèlǐ dàochù dōu yě shì yuèbǐng. jīntiān yǐjīng chī sì ge! wǒ juéde měige yǒu wǔshí rèliàng, méiyǒu táng。
Here mooncakes are everywhere as well. I have already eaten four today! I keep telling myself they are sugar-free and have 50 calories each! :)

September 22, 2010 at 8:01 AMThank you for sharing that story, very nice. I also dislike cleaning, but as to whether it would be easier to start *liking* it than to learn Chinese, I am not sure. ^_^ Great that you managed to learn from your 阿姨, pretty impressive. I have only been able to pick up a new word or two from mine, but the speaking practice is useful. The listening practice less so, all her ch-, zh-, sh- sound the same to me.

September 18, 2010 at 10:48 AMSo bodawei, does the Chinese alarm clock you bought have a "Snooze" button? What does it say, 打盹 (da3dun3 - snooze) or 再响 (zai4 xiang3 - ring again)? Thanks!

What brand was its predecessor, Japanese I imagine? 20 years is a LOT.

September 16, 2010 at 10:59 PMFrom my cell phone's alarm menu and MDBG's dictionary:
Alarm Clock Menu - 闹钟 - nàozhōng
alarm bell (the alarm itself) - 闹铃 - nàolíng
(similar to 门铃 - menlíng - doorbell)
"Repeat alarm" mode (alarm sounds every day) - 重复闹铃模式 - chóngfù nàolíng móshì
"Alarm once" mode (alarm sounds just one day) - 依次闹铃模式 - yīcì nàolíng móshì
Stop (the alarm once it's started beeping) - 停止 - tíngzhǐ (same 停 used to refer to stopping a vehicle, 停车 - tíng chē)
Snooze - 再响 - zài xiǎng (Ring loudly again!)
alarm tone (select beeping sound or ringtone to wake up to) - 闹钟铃声 - nàozhōng língshēng

June 16, 2010 at 4:49 AMre: difference between 合同 and 合约, based on a Glossary search, looks like 合同 is used much more frequently. Would be nice to get more insight on this, since John mentioned both are used frequently。

For "renew" I found:
http://chinesepod.com/tools/glossary/entry/续约
http://chinesepod.com/tools/glossary/entry/续签
So how would we say to renew goverment-issued things like driving licenses, work and residence permits, etc.? Is it a different word than to renew a subscription?
