August 14, 2007 at 8:38 PMHi, all. This is my first comment, since discovering Chinese Pod a week ago. I'm coming back to Chinese after many years of not using it, and am thrilled to find such an incredible community to be learning from and with. At the risk of dredging up a conversation that's on its way out, I have to weigh in on the traditional/simplified thread. My view is that it's most beneficial to learn both, as both are in frequent use in different places. I have to say, though, that I love the traditional characters and find them easier to learn and easier to remember. And they're just so darned beautiful, so full of meaning and history. It's hard for me to make the simplified characters look good - and it just kills me that in some cases the heart has literally been taken out of words (like taking the 心 [heart] out of 愛 [love]). So, as I get up to speed, I'll be commenting in traditional characters; I want to get them solidly back before re-learning simplified. Unless there's some spoken or unspoken understanding that comments should be in simplified. If so, please let me know. Thanks everyone!

I'll have to check out the Chinesepod dictionary - haven't been there yet. And thanks aert for the poem - any chance of getting it in characters? To continue the weather report, it's very springlike in upstate New York -- recording-setting highs in Albany (over 60 degrees F) and also here in my neck of the woods a little further south. All the snow is melting and next thing you know we'll have buds on the trees -- not good for January. So, how do you say "buds are busting out of bushes" in Chinese?
