Good lesson!  I understand this may be disturbing to some people, but this is chinese culture.   I forget how to say "in Rome do as the romans do" in mandarin.  Maybe someone can help with that.

I find it intersting that so many of the animal rights activists are the same folks who have little regard for human life.

Dear Amber,'

I want to also add my thanks to you.  When we visited Shanghai and came to the Chinesepod office on that blistering hot July afternoon, you were so kind.  You saw that we had been walking for hours and were exhausted.  You treated us to water and made sure we were comfortable.   I am sure to you that seemed like such a small thing, but I will never forget your kindness.  So often it is the little things that we do for each other that make the biggest difference.    You made our trip to Chinespod so memorable,  Thank you again.

I hope you enjoy you life in New York.  Good luck, and may God bless you.

Ha ha,  good lesson.  My last trip to Shanghai I went to karaoke bar with some students from Fudan university.  I would like to have known how to say microphone hog.  Actually, we had a wonderful time.  Karaoke is so different in China than in the USA.  The private rooms make all the difference.  It was our first time at KTV and I am ready to go back.  Sonny and Cher....watch out!

Ok, I guess I will confess. I was nailed on the tea scam in Shanhai on my first day in the city. Americans are ripe for this scam because we are, on the whole, friendly and enjoy meeting new people. I didn't even know I was scammed until my son, a student in China , explained to me that my "friends" had just taken me for a ride. Luckily I didn't stop trying to make friends in Shanghai. I now have some wonderful Chinese friends there and we call each other frequenly (weekly) and exhange gifts on holidays. My advice, be wary, but don't loose the childlike desire to make new friends. Our association with our Chinese friends in Shanghai have brought us immeasurable happiness. Good Luck. ps. Once in China you quickly learn that $400USD can buy enough tea to fill a large suitcase and is a bit expensive, even if you do get to watch a little clay figurine urinate when hot water is poured on it.

Amber, you are a wonderful asset to chinesepod. Thanks for your help. ( when we visited shanghai you came down into the alley to rescue us when we were lost, and since it was July and we were nearly toasted you gave us water and found us a place to sit.). You do it all. great job

I guess I am still a bit confused over the differences between, hao a, hao de, hao ba. I think I heard John say that hao ba is for when your not really excited about the idea but willing to go along.

If I go to southern China in winter will the inside of the homes be cool inside. I hear that there are no heaters in the southern homes, and in winters I will need to dress warm even in the south. Does this sound correct? What temperatures can I expect?
