Haha, when it comes to work, Jenny's a 女强人. But she's definitely a 小女人most of the time. 她很温柔。

谢谢你的支持podster :D This is why I enjoy working and learning with Chinesepod. Culture difference can make things sound so differently. I'm learning a lot through comments as well. It shocked me before when i found out people get upset by what i said. But then things make more sense after i get to know the culture reasons behind.

"you just absorb some language without always knowing why it is so"

I really agree with that, baba! To be honest, i didn't realize there are so many different usages of one simple character till I started teaching Chinese. It's easy to remember the set phrases and eventually you'd figure something out.

Hope I didn't offend any of our poddies by saying it's crazy to dance when you don't know the moves.

In China, some kids are sent to dancing classes when they are really young so they can have it as their speciality. It can get them into good schools if they dance well enough. For those kids who never learned how to dance, there are rare situations they can actually dance with people. There's no such things like Prom or ball in most local schools. Sometimes schools organize students to watch singing and dancing performance when there is a holiday(Children's Day, New Year's Day...). So most of us are either a good dancer or a good audience. I'd say many Chinese don't know how to react when they are in a party with music and peolpe dancing around. It is usually quite impressive when they see people who are 'dancing like nobody's watching'.

You can simply say "盖上盖子“ and "取下盖子“. Or you can use 把 structure: “把盖子盖上“ ”把盖子取下".

Hi darkstar94, most sentences you made are good, just need a little change.

1. 麻烦你帮我拍一下我的表演。/麻烦你帮我把我的表演拍下来。

2. 你能帮我拍一下照吗?

3. 你能把你刚才说的话打出来吗?(it is okay to say 把你刚才的话写下来, it makes sense in this context)

The first time I saw the picture of Shrek, I did think it is a frog monster!
