June 20, 2008 at 9:48 PMI believe that the taste sensation that Auntie68 described is 鲜味 (xiānwèi). The Japanese have a similar concept called "umami". Umami is proposed as the "fifth" taste sensation to the current four that we have (sweet, salty, bitter, sour). Here is the wiki entry on umami.

June 20, 2008 at 9:43 PMHere is a picture of a 鳳爪 rather than the 白雲鳳爪 that Clay posted. 鳳爪, 白雲鳳爪, I love them all but try not to indulge too often.

June 20, 2008 at 4:33 PMVery interesting combination of topics today. It was interesting to hear from a local perspective on the topic of sex.
I love asian fruits. Tried all except for the 槟榔. Not sure if I want to have stained teeth though.
There used to be a restaurant in Toronto that served 榴莲酥 (Durian flaky pastry) for 點心 (dim sum). Yum-Oh! That would be a good introduction to 榴莲 for those afraid to try one in the natural form.

June 11, 2008 at 2:09 AMHaha, chillosk. Your story reminds me of an experience we had. We bought 2 copies of the "same" book from a vendor. When we compared the 2 copies later on, we noticed that there were quite a few discrepancies. Not sure which one of us got the more authentic version. Maybe our bookseller is also a kite-seller...

June 11, 2008 at 1:46 AM我兩年前去了天安門廣場。這實在是非常大的。有很多人。
Went there 2 years ago. It's indeed very big. There are lots of people.

May 15, 2008 at 1:57 AM我喜歡珍珠奶茶. Bubble tea is getting mainstream in Toronto. There are shops in non-Chinese areas and shopping centres. In case you are in Toronto and looking for a 珍珠奶茶 fix. http://www.bubbletease.com/main.html

September 5, 2008 at 1:16 AMGreat work! This is a wonderful new feature. Now I will never forget the "bread vehicle".
