April 16, 2012 at 3:49 PMDitto. Your training and racing bike isn't going to be safe; if you park it, use a lot which has an attendant--or in the least, take the wheel off and take it with you.
I made the mistake of putting my favorite pedals (Speedplay Frogs, around 150 USD) on my commuter/trainer bike (2500RMB Giant). Having the bike stolen made me "Chinese," I've been told. Having the pedals stolen made me a fool.

April 13, 2012 at 6:16 AMOh man--this had so much potential. Didn't the writer consult with the Shanghai Triathlon Club http://www.shanghaitriclub.com/ or the China Triathlon Sports Association http://triathlon.sport.org.cn/? It's possible that Gareth (in the lesson) is a 10 hour Ironman, but not likely considering his diet. With his attitude towards protein, he'll be nursing an injury within two months.
Here's how I have answered the question 哇,这样不是要比一天一夜?脚不会抽筋吗?
每个铁人三项比赛早上七点开始,晚上十二点结束,一共用十七个小时。第一名一般用八个小时左右,我用了十六个小时三十五分,差不多最后的。
In my experience, the woman would have asked about blisters, not foot cramps. I'd tell her that I coat my feet in 凡士林 before the run (a bit unorthodox)...but leg cramps are certainly an issue. Most experts recommend using salt replacement tablets during races half-iron and up.
Most people wonder about changing clothes (transition zone) and going to the bathroom (porta-potties). If you offer to redo the podcast, I'll bet you that a couple of us would write a couple realistic dialogues for you.

April 13, 2012 at 4:21 AMSadly, Dave, China no longer has a full Ironman. The transfer from Haikou to Tianjin was hastily done, and the 2011 Ironman China was cancelled within two weeks of the race.
From their website: World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) announced today that the 2011 Ironman China and Ironman 70.3 China races, set to take place on May 29 in Jixian, Tianjin, have been cancelled. After the cancellation of the swim portion of the race earlier in the week and the resulting change to a bike-run format, WTC was informed that Tianjin Sports Bureau (TSB) could not obtain the required sanctions from the China Triathlon Sports Association (CTSA) to conduct the event.
“Events in China require an appropriate sports body to act as the co-organizer,” said Murphy Reinschreiber, managing director of the Asia Pacific region for WTC. “While we have had nothing but positive experiences in working with China’s sports authorities in the past, TSB simply failed to provide all of the documentation necessary for CTSA to process the sanction.”
I completed the inaugural Ironman China in 2008. Chinese Pod should add "差不多最后的“ to the supplementary vocabulary:-)
