I thought the reason they (CP) let boring businessman Pete get killed by ninjas was that he was too boring to be the lead in a series, even be it in an educational one ;-)

May 1, 2009 at 3:37 PMI do like these lessons, even though I'm not that into 僵尸. Actually, I like most of the lessons that are part of a story, like the famous Jizhou saga, the Pregnancy series and even the ones about boring businessman Pete. They make learning Chinese as fun as watching a movie! Because you will hear the same (topical) words many times, they will stick better.
But I'm also wondering, does the 'ordinary' (老百姓) Chinese know about 僵尸, or only the ones that are 电影迷?

yes, only six years, but that's because it was not murder in the first degree, and there were also some extenuating circumstances.

April 15, 2009 at 7:33 PMthank you very much for this great lesson!
As a Dutch to Chinese translator, I often have to translate for police and in court.I had to translate once for a Chinese woman who had killed her boyfriend, it was a tough case. She was sentenced to jail for six years.
I hope this lesson will be the beginning of a long series!

I'm also looking forward to your poetry show!
The only poem I know so far is the famous 静夜思 of 李白

January 11, 2009 at 9:59 PMDear Amber,
I'm sorry to hear you've left Chinesepod, I wish you all the best in NYC, hope your Chinese will come in handy there as well :-) Maybe you can give us poddies an update of your life in a couple of months? Very curious to know what kind of job you will (have?) found there, and if it's anything to do with China.
I'm relistening all the old Dear Ambers now...
wish you all the best,
Lydia

January 4, 2009 at 11:04 PMhi hotpot,
thanks for your explanation of the Chinese concept of '家‘, it really helps to understand the (hidden meaning of the) dialogue more clearly!
