很讨厌呢?  什么做对爱。 基本要求 - 有钱,车,房子, 婚纱照。哎哟!
否则仍光棍儿。

Ah, xie xie, but they sound much more than casual friends. :)

Regarding this sentence  :   我想请你吃饭。

Is this just for learning purposes or would you really say this to your girlfriend?(You treat friends/acquaintences to dinner-not your girlfriend)

A more natural statement would be (for me) is 'Are you free tonight? Let's have dinner.'

你今晚有空吗?  我们去吃饭吧。

sorry to hear your loss but by coincidence, my friend's wife also miscarried and when she got pregnant this time, it was a BIG National secret. I couldn't mention anything about it so as not to jinx it. Even when she was 'showing', I could not say a peep. It's the 'BIG WHITE ELEPHANT' in the room.

What I still don't get is the one month 'NO VISITORS NO BATHING' RULE. [this custom lives here in the USA] What other 'rules - customs' are there after giving birth? Are gifts appropriate and if so what kinds?

I stepped on my friends wife's toes when I went to visit them in the hospital the day she gave birth. They are having their second child this month and I'm warned 'NOT to come'.

sorry that went over my head... your example of 点菜 was excellent in that I've noticed the Chinese language likes to recombine works-like Lego- and cutting out parts. so the dian cai I can see how it got to dian le by cutting out the cai.

is there other words starting with dian that fall in this category?

Hopefully I made myself clear.
