April 26, 2008 at 2:50 AMHi! I'm an ABC. :) The first time I went to China, I was thrilled to learn that Chinese people considered me as "returning". It was *very* endearing. So I have two questions: (1) What do I call myself? Should I say that I am a "Meiji Huayi"? (2) I can speak conversational Chinese. How should I answer the question, "Ni hui shuo Zhongwen ma?"

April 12, 2008 at 9:15 PMHi everyone, I lived for one year in Detroit. It was the coldest winter in a century. I had a hard time driving in the snow. Since we call it Motown in English, how about calling it "Che Cheng" in Chinese? :)

December 21, 2007 at 6:19 AMHi! A "ye mao zi" doesn't have to be a party animal. He/she can be a bookworm. (1) Then, how does one say "party animal"? (2) And isn't it very rare for a university student to be one (unlike in the US)? (3) How common is it for working folks to be party animals in China?

December 7, 2007 at 7:29 AMChris, Welcome to Intermediate! Jenny and John, I've noticed the other levels now have serial stories. Will you do one in Intermediate, e.g., the adventures of an English teacher in a mythical province? I was severely underpaid when I taught in China two years ago. The Chinese are tough negotiators!

November 3, 2007 at 2:34 AMWhat I want to know is how do you order a glass of water in a Chinese restaurant. In other words, no ice, not hot, and not bottled water? Is this possible in China?
