So how common is it amongst males ? Is the male teacher who hosted this lesson from northern China ?

March 31, 2011 at 7:39 AMat 0:53 seconds into this lesson, the male teacher says 万一 , but it sounds like vàn yī instead of wàn yī .
I've heard this type of "v" sound in the place of pinyin "w" sounds before, but I'm curious about it. Is this a regional pronunciation, or can it be heard by locals all throughout China ?
Thanks in advance !

March 31, 2011 at 10:27 AMoh ok, so you're saying David/徐洲 doesn't usually speak that way ? Shanghai is a really big/famous city, so I guess I find it odd that David isn't speaking in his natural accent.
