April 6, 2011 at 4:09 AMDid anyone else think that in the dialog, the second time the male speaker said "What time is it" in Chinese, it sounded like he was saying "It's seven o'clock right now" ?
It sounds like he's saying "xiànzài qīdiǎn" , instead of "xiànzài jǐ diǎn"

April 5, 2011 at 2:57 AMthis is a brilliant idea, to record real conversations as lesson texts, instead of scripted dialogues that sound unnatural and forced. In the future, other forms of natural speech besides interviews can be used too. For example, two people having a conversation about the pros and cons of Shanghai, or two/three people having a conversation about a movie they have all seen.
I think that this style of lesson making is not only better for the learner, but also probably easier to produce, because nobody needs to write a dialogue. All that needs to be done is to have someone listen to the conversation and write down everything that is said.

April 4, 2011 at 8:22 AMoh okay. Would you mind telling me what the main reasons are that made you make that Freudian slip ? I can see in your profile that you live in HK, so I'm interested in knowing exactly what it is that makes some people separate HK from the rest of China.
I know there's a different currency, and that ppl speak Canto, and it's a lot more politically-free in HK, but is that all ?

April 6, 2011 at 9:22 AMoh ok. I've met a few Jiangsu people before and they seem to be the hardest for me to understand. I wonder why that is. Do most Jiangsu ppl speak a local dialect that's very different than PuTongHua ?
