I've known and have been making Chinese friends for six years. What I've come to find is, despite the province they are from, for the most part, nothing learned from a textbook will be used in the real world. Maybe the grammar rules, yes, but not vocabulary. I'd go through vocabulary lists with friends both in college and while in China and they just tell me I'll never use those words.

Words to describe everyday things like buildings, taxis, busses, people, foods, etc etc...almost nothing that's used in the real world is in textbooks, and vocab in textbooks is used in the real world.

This is after six years of knowing about 150 Chinese people both in the USA and China.

Like I said, I just don't get it.

It's a good lesson, but it's one of those where you're never going to say things how you're shown in the lesson.

I've traveled China and I used language I learned from books and lessons..and they don't use any of it. I don't get it.

I don't understand the meaning of "zhe" in the phrase, "zhe wo ke mei zhuyi."

Maybe it was mentioned in the podcast but I am not catching it :(

I really love these lessons---I tried Rosetta Stone but it wasn't realistic at all.

C'mon, you're in Chengdu. No one pronounces things "normally" there. Are you at Chengdu uni?

Everywhere you go, people are going to speak Sichuanese.

I understand American English is on the decline, but I'm sure Cpod wrote it like that to keep this program on a more realistic level - so many language programs out there teach the most formal way of speaking without even mentioning colloquial language. I'll only complain when I see something like, "your" when someone is trying to say, "you are."
