In Taiwan I often heard da fan dian (hotel) pronounced "da huan dian", and chi fan (eat) as "chi huan", as well as some of the other examples cited in this thread. My sense is that some speakers of Taiwanese use lip-rounding when it comes to "f", and the teeth don't fully contact the lip (i.e., the labio-dental fricative is not fully effected).

I'm confused: Waiguoren, huami, and zhenlijiang are saying "我从来不..." is "I would never..." in English. "I would never" is equivalent to "I am not willing", and points to future as well as past actions.

I guess I don't understand "我从来不", because I thought it meant "I never" or "I have never" in English -- pointing only to past actions.

Can "我从来不" mean BOTH "I would/will never" AND "I have never"?

謝謝lujiaojie！那麼，你們覺得那個女人的個性怎么樣？她不是有點嚴厲嗎？（sharp，short-tempered，kind of mean）？或者，可能電腦壞掉讓她發脾氣？雖然如此，她的態度是不是人人會expect嗎？(Just taking the opportunity to practice writing -- badly). What do you all think of the woman's personality? Is she just venting because she's frustrated by the computer? Even so, is her attitude within the range of what native speakers might expect in this situation? Am I making sense?

Can anyone on the Team tell me what the relationship between the speakers is (presumably)? And what's the setting? Are they a married couple? Colleagues at work? Classmates? Brother and sister? I'd like to be able to tie the attitudinal tone-of-voice to a relationship & situation. Thanks.

If the many years and many dollars spent working on a PhD in language education have given me an opinion, it is this: The key to teaching/learning a foreign language is in recycling familiar vocabulary in a widening variety of contexts and situations. Chinesepod seems to do this.
