And what about you? How could it be that your electricity bill is so low? Where do you live and which type of heating do you use?

I don't know, perhaps a few hundreads RMB? To be honest, better not to know.. But my boyfriend says, it is much cheaper this way than to install quite a new central heating. We will hopefully stay only one winter season in this old shabby house and move.

December 7, 2009 at 3:59 AMThe place where we live may be an exception in 北方, as we don't use 暖气, but 空调. There used to be 暖气 in the very past because the old rotten units are still remaining in each of the rooms but they are for no use any more. Anyway, to live just on 空调 would be too uncomfortable so we are also using different types of electric heatings.
How should I say "electric heating" in Chinese? My dictionary lists terms like 电热器 dian4re4qi4, 加热器 jia1re4qi4 and 暖房装置 nuan3fang2 zhuang1zhi4. What would be the most commonly used term?

It's nice to know that even someone like you had to go through the struggle with the language at the beginning.
Myself I'm also in the state of a little frustration. Thanks to CPod lessons I had already gained some confidence about my Chinese. But after coming to China (and it's my second time!) I can see that my ability to communicate is in fact very low. Happily, people can understand me although I'm not fluent, but I have big problems to understand. So I'm forced to use the expression 听不懂 quite often.
What a difference with good old Japan. After having passed some Japanese studies, one is able to normally communicate!

I've played the same game here in Liaoning province so it surely can't be only Shanghainese specialty.
However, it was in its abbreviated form.
