i think her accent is a bit unusual and like nothing i've heard before, but i guess it is good practice. does she have a slight lisp?

The Octopus card sounds alot like Taipei's "Easy Card" or "Yo-Yo Card" (悠遊卡 yōuyóukǎ) which can now be used to buy things at Wellcome/7-11/85-C/etc... along with being used for MRT, local and intercity Bus, Taxi's.......... very convenient 很方便(hěnfāngbiàn)

another great 請問!

in the spirit of 由, how about a 請問 on 由於 (yóuyú) verses 因為?

or has this already been done?

sometimes it gets a bit confusing wether the second clause can be introduced by 所以, 因此(yīncǐ), and 因而 or just 所以....

also, i think 由於 requires 是 if it is at the beginning of the second clause, but 因為 doesn't?

another way to say something like "nerd" or maybe better "geek" is 宅男(zhai2nan2) or 宅女(zhai2nu3) -- borrowed from Japanese, this means something like someone who stays all the time playing video games or who is really into computers in a geek'ish type way.

i guess 書呆子 (shu1dai1zi) can be translated "nerd" as well, but more in an academic type way: "bookworm"
