I was a Pat Metheny fan well before I moved to NH and New England overall, but I did see the Pat Metheny Group a few times at the Orpheum Theater. You and I possibly drive past each other on the commutes at some point, as i'm usually taking rt3, 128 and the turnpike. Or maybe you work from home.......

I showed my wife your response to my post. She agreed with you regarding having the door open to the snow and freezing rain in order to see guests off. Maybe i'm happy that we don't have any friends :) Her sister is coming for a visit this weekend, and we'll see if she leaves the door open to send them off, with our baby daughter next to her.

January 8, 2009 at 2:10 AMMy wife developed this habit while in China, then took it back to the US. I think it was lost on most of her non-Chinese friends and family, and certainly me until she explained it. Thank God she's not doing it on these frozen New England nights.

January 2, 2009 at 4:14 AMthis is a cute scenario for teaching button pushing in mandarin. I listened to the dialog only, and not Ken/Jenny's lesson (testing if i'm getting any better at mandarin), but I wonder if this is the same "push", as in, "I pushed my brother's buttons, and then he hit me".

December 29, 2008 at 5:41 PMtom12ga,
you're the first person i've ever seen on cpod that mentioned Chinese women's lack of interest in African men. That was my perception in China overall as well. I'm happy that i'm already happily married and that it's my wife's job that will be taking us back to China if we end up heading there. The dating scene was tough enough in the US where you knew the landscape, and would be even tougher in a foreign country where you're valued even less than at home.
On the other hand, I suppose we're all misfits somehow....

December 29, 2008 at 4:55 PMllamalobster, i'm glad to see that i'm not alone in the misfit club. Different reasons, different circumstances, but similar observer/outsider-looking-in perspective.

December 27, 2008 at 2:35 AMI know this isn't the best place for this question, and I suspect it's been asked and answered multiple times, but if a subscriber wanted to drop by cpod's offices, would we need an appointment or something? Could we just literally show up and say, "hi, i'm so and so, and I just thought I'd drop in?"

December 13, 2008 at 3:42 AMJohn, I meant to mention that during the lesson, you kept replying to Jenny in Mandarin. that made it really difficult for us elementary level people to pick up on what the translations should be. I know I can look at the pdf, but it helps when you translate as you've done in other intermediate lessons (replacing your lost cell phone is a good example). I know that the intermediates are supposed to be more difficult, but not sure if you are supposed to only speak english in intermediate level lessons or not. Just be consistent. Thanks.
Still a good lesson.

January 10, 2009 at 3:31 PMdawnoctopus, so we're all listening to cpod on CDs in the car, inbetween the times when we're listening to Morning Edition/All Things Considered.
