November 26, 2011 at 5:47 AMLots of ways to answer the Americans/1st/2nd/3rd tier question:
1) survey based: 100% of people in NYC couldn't find Phoenix on a map, let alone care what people in Phoenix think (I made this up).
2) zeitgeist based: except for retirees, and desert, what is Phoenix known for? Arizona State? being the state capital?
3) demographic based: population of Phoenix consists of x% latino/hispanic, y% caucasian, z% american indian, a%black/african american....
Great things about Los Angeles: from skiing to surfing, hiking to fishing, about anything that humans like doing can be done within 2 hours of downtown LA (except watching the NFL in a stadium).

November 24, 2011 at 5:54 AMIn fact, had you come to Beijing earlier, there are a few places that would order the bird for you to prepare yourself. But for the price, they probably flew the bird in from Arkansas in United Economy class.

November 24, 2011 at 5:50 AMMany of the hotels that cater to Americans (Hilton, Westin, Sheraton, Mandarin Oriental, etc..) will provide you with a turkey dinner. not sure about the greens, sweet potato pie (maybe you did pumpkin), egg nog, GOOD macaroni and cheese (don't get me started on Kraft in a box). You only need provide the family and the arguments.

If you just want to be able to type Chinese characters on demand, you can do the following:
Go to Control Panel >> Under Clock, Language and Region, click on Change keyboards or other input methods >> Change Keyboards >> Add >> scroll down and select Chinese (there are options for Simplified, Traditional etc. I selected Chinese (Simplified, PRC)) >> click on the box next to keyboard, in the same window, and MORE options will open up to you. I chose Chinese (Simplified) Microsoft Pinyin ABC Input Style >> OK >> Apply.
Once you've done that, on the lower right hand corner of your screen you should see a language bar, where you can click and switch between different input methods.

October 12, 2011 at 4:25 PMWe need to get every Chinese person a marshmallow roasted over a campfire at night telling ghost stories one time (Tang dynasty stories? Chinese folk stories?). That'll get 'em hooked on camping.

November 26, 2011 at 12:27 PMI've met all types, and it sounds like you have also. No doubt there's someone in Phoenix that has lived in Phoenix for their whole life, hasn't left Phoenix but a few times, and can't imagine living anywhere else. Samething with NYC, Beijing, San Francisco, Dayton OH USA, Hui County Gansu Province China, Clark County West Virginia, Honolulu Hawaii USA, etc.
Not sure about your last comment. When I lived in LA, I loved the beach, the mountains and the stuff that LA isn't really famous for. But by the time I left, I was ready to leave.
