October 4, 2011 at 9:53 AMI never knew they were explicitly doing it, although I had my suspicions around a number of lessons. You learn something new everyday.

September 13, 2011 at 3:12 PM(not quite spoiler alert). Ok, granted this is just a Chinesepod lesson intended to teach Chinese, and share some Chinese culture. And granted this is a nice Chinese legend. And i'm sure that in his day Cao Chong was a very smart and kind little boy with lots of friends. And granted there's some reasonably well known Greek dude on whose principle this story might be based. (and granted I didn't listen to the lesson, so I don't know if this was brought up). But somehow, I feel like asking Cao Chong a few questions around the difference between mass and weight, and the effects of temperature and chemical impurities on density....

September 13, 2011 at 2:05 PMThis is good to know. It would also be helpful knowing where you can find Tylenol without going to one of the expat stores (for $2 a pill) or at the hotel front desk (for free or $2.50 a pill).
I just realized you could also use the MDBG translate function to get what we commonly use: 布洛芬 bùluòfēn - ibuprofen. Same problem applies about where to get it.

September 1, 2011 at 5:00 AMActually, I got your reference! I was annoyed that I understood it came from a movie decades ago. I can just see Sidney Poitier saying it now....

Posted on: English Teaching Jobs in China
October 5, 2011 at 3:13 AMThe quick answer is yes. I know Fangcaodi 芳草地小学 in Beijing has a number of foreign teachers that teach English. I think a few of them are American. I've seen listings for other schools as well that welcome native English speakers. It probably helps that Fangcaodi has an international department. Not sure if you wanted to teach at at local Chinese school without an international department.
