April 29, 2011 at 6:11 AMI don't get it. Just my own curiousity, but why didn't you just whip out a credit card and make the subscription purchase online?

April 28, 2011 at 1:59 AMWell, FWIW, the earliest (2005 or early 2006 elementary, intermediates) lessons were also created with Ken to a different standard than there is now. They could also be re-recorded.
But in the end, you're probably right about how in the grand scheme of things, this may not be that big a deal. I would agree that Ken brought a different perspective to cpod, and his constant emphasis on cpod teaching style and reference points ("lexical density" and "collocations" are ones i'm always going to remember) is also what made cpod different from other language institutions.
One of the things that isn't that clear is how closely the old lesson will be matched to the new lesson, given the new standard. If the new lesson uses the same topic, but adds a few more words, it could be a long newbie or a short elementary.

April 28, 2011 at 1:30 AMa few years ago, I had to transfer money to a friend in China from the US. I provided the Chinese bank's SWIFT code, then filled out the rest of the information (pinyin is really handy in this case). I then asked how long would it take before our friend got the money, and the woman said, "usually the transfer happens instantly, but China is a 'slow to pay' country, so the transfer might take 10 days".

April 27, 2011 at 6:37 PMActually, it isn't clear how this re-recording is going to be executed. Cpod in the past said they were redoing some of the previous lessons because they didn't meet the educational standards they have now. The interesting thing is that the posts and discussion threads to those lessons were likely still very relevant. It looks like those will be eliminated if Amesburygeorge's observation is how this lesson implementation is going to be executed.
It also isn't clear when specific old lessons will disappear, and the new ones taking their place will. For those that miss Ken, it sounds like they might want to start downloading every existing newbie if they haven't already done so. Or for those that liked Chris Tucker :-)

April 23, 2011 at 2:06 AMThis is one of the easiest upper intermediates i've learned. Only about 20 or so new vocabulary words, unlike the 40-60 new words when you first start going into UI from intermediate.

April 18, 2011 at 11:08 AMTexas is actually one of the best places to be a criminal defendant -
I would love to know if you felt this was always true, or true in the past 5 years, or true over the past 20 years, or true based on your ethnicity, or based on the prosecutor, or based on attorney general or whatever else might influence such statements.
