Posted on: What does she look like?
December 6, 2010 at 11:29 AMI think I read in Cosmopolitan or Glamour (some really funny magazines if you ask me. I love getting insight into what women tell/show each other), something like, "Hi, my name is ....." and a friendly handshake.

December 6, 2010 at 11:19 AMOh, claudielo, I actually am on a quest for new words that we've never had lessons for before. I don't recall that we actually had a lesson on lotion, which is why you're having to deal with me discussing an elementary level lesson.
And despite Alitalia's difficulties, they have pretty livery ;-)

December 6, 2010 at 11:11 AMAnd I thought I was the only one that knew Alitalia had some financial challenges ;-)
I have daily reminders of how bad my Chinese is. The problem for me with dictionaries is
1) that they do not also usually tell you the measure word for the noun in question
2) the usual temptation when you do know a word (say, lotion), is to ask for it the same way you ask for something in English. This is a receipe for being laughed at, and I am also laughed at enough on a daily basis by my bad tones without adding further humiliation by asking for something the wrong way (like for example, us Americans say, "I have a flat tire". This is not what the Chinese say.
3) I flew Continental yesterday. A pretty darn good airline that hopefully will improve United, instead of United ruining Continental.

December 6, 2010 at 9:34 AMWouldn't a useful pickup line lesson be a lesson with pickup lines that work? :-)

I guess my question would have been are these real pickup lines, but I'm sure this question has already been addressed....

December 2, 2010 at 1:54 PMFuture vocabulary suggestion: there isn't really a good place to put this unless I create a new discussion thread for it, or dig up an existing thread deep from the thread discussion bowels. But it would be nice for future lessons to indicate on the vocabulary tab for lessons what vocabulary words are nouns, verbs, and more importantly, which of these nouns and verbs can be used as adjectives and adverbs. A suggested implementation might be adding a column (for future lessons only) that just says "v, adv" for the word xiǎngtōng (to realize, to figure it out).

December 2, 2010 at 1:46 PMyeah, I remember Moonlighting also..... too bad it ended the way it did.
Posted on: A Member of the 'Moonlight Clan'
November 29, 2010 at 2:40 AMinteresting topic for a lesson. I'm sure there are plenty of people living hand-to-mouth across China, as there are in the rest of the world. I didn't know they were referred to as the moonlight clan. They don't have a name for this as far as I know in the US, but I haven't really searched.

December 7, 2010 at 7:05 PMMaybe that was Cosmo's point; that "Hi my name is slim shady" isn't really a pickup line from a player (too bad Tucker Max isn't trying to learn Chinese on cpod), but something from a decent dude.
Not sure what to make of your statement that Cosmo/Glamour is not reaching out for females like you....
