Usually, when there was a discussion about catching a train, posters would start talking about their experiences riding trains.  Or when there was a lesson about some Shanghai cuisine, posters would start talking away about the same dish, or some other dish they liked. Or when there was a lesson about the Yellow Mountain, posters would talk about their experience hiking it.

Well, in that case, I guess the Chinese can have their grits, but it sounds like they'll be waiting a while for their chitlins and haggis pie :)

Of course, some well meaning soul will tell us how to order chitlins and haggis in Shanghai somewhere. Hold the pepperoni.

at least taking the train, security checks are a lot simpler than at airports.

On a scale from 1 - 3, where 1 is easy, and 3 is difficult, this is a 2 - moderate intermediate.  Mostly 1 sentence paragraphs, but a couple of paragraphs had some new words and phrases like "design" and "according to" in them that made going over the entire paragraph a challenge.

FWIW, this is a pretty challenging intermediate.  If you're picking on your own, put it on the difficult side of intermediate.  3-4 sentences said by a particular individual, using new vocabulary. Respondent replies with 2-4 sentences of their own. Couple of phrases are challenging as well.

If this were a rating system, rank this one from 3 for challenging, where 1 is an easy intermediate (perfect for going from elementary level), 2 is plain jane intermediate, and 3 is difficult.

Funny how its overwhelmingly guys commenting on this lesson....

I'd say this is a moderate intermediate.  It might have been easy, but there are too many back and forth sentences for a truly easy intermediate.  A good lesson.

holy cow, are you from the southern US? was this Chinese American breakfast in the US or in China?

Personally, grits are ok, as long as they don't have lumps! But I was already told once that "you have lost your roots", because I put butter and sugar on my grits, which is apparently simply not done in the South.

Did the Chinese just eat the grits plain? Or were they more Southern than me, and put butter and salt/pepper on their grits?

There are plenty more day-to-day topics on other areas besides food that haven't been covered in as much detail as food. Maybe we can have lessons in areas that haven't been covered as often as food, like life in the village, kung fu fighting, the sewer system, calling a locksmith, construction site activity, and other areas before another food lesson is generated. :)

This is a relatively easy intermediate. Good starting point for that Elementary-to-intermediate transition.
