。

When listening to the sounds for both bi3 and zhi3 they sound more like be-eh  and jr-eh. Is this just the result of the rise in the thrid tone? I would have pronounced them as bee and jr.

Just received a note from a Chinese friend it said......

If you use lihai in a positive manner, you should smile as you use it......

I question lihai being used in a positive manner. The definitions seem negative. How would it play out if I said to someone they are really "lihai" meaning really impressive

difficult to deal with / difficult to endure / ferocious / radical / serious / terrible / violent / tremendous / awesome

HELP!!!!

I have just read a simple sentence two ways. Neither of which makes sense. The sentence is:

  He slept for an hour.

      I have read it as:

他睡了一个钟头觉

    也

他睡觉睡了一个钟头

I would have written it as:

他睡觉一个钟头

Can anyone explain ...

 1. why shuijiao is split into two words in the first sentence.

 2. Why shui is repeated in the second sentence.

  3. Is the way I would have written it incorrect

A question that does not refer to this lesson.

So often in your expansion exercises I see the term "yixia" being interjected where it seem to have no purpose or meaning. Can you explain the use of this term in such expressions.

For example:

你去问一下大家吧. you go ask everybody.
