help!!!!!

I have asked this before and received no rsponses.

I am frustrated with the pronounciation of the simple word  "yuan". I hear it being pronounced so many different ways ( even on the pod casts). The most common are "Yen" and "wen".

What is the closest english pronounciation to this word?

Unrelated question on pronounciation:

 Listening to the many times the word "yuan" has been pronounced in the various lessons,it seems to often be the same as "yan" which i hear as "yen"  but then sometimes it seems to have a sound like "wen".

The moon cake lesson is a good example as Yuan (round) was pronounced both ways...at least to my ears. What is the correct sound?

For the fifth anniversary, I thought I might hear the name "Ken" and what has happened to him and others that were here from the start. Many memories of coffee in the morning and listening to their voices.

I always thought of these words differently...they had a mental progression to me

   Rang= a polite request

   jiao= to ask

   shi= to tell someone do something

  ling= a command

wow... what a great discussion.

Plenty of food for thought....

p.s. I have a QW note book of all the lessons, I would hate to see QW  reduced.

The two that are being built next to the embassy are advertising loft type apartments. Just to the south, besides the central bank building, they have removed the low rise buildings for new high rise. My friends tell me that these building are not that old.... thus my comment

I found the chart very interesting. But what I have seen in Chengdu is location and age of the apartment are the real drivers. Five floor apartments under 20 years of age are being taken down to build the 10-20 floor western style apartments. The area around the embassy is a good example.

It is in the newer part of town. A mile south of US Embassy. The dishwasher is me , the apartment has two bedroom, large living room/dining area, a stove, micro, TV, washer,a/c. Also serviced daily just like a hotel. Also a two minute walk to the subway while will open in October. Many good places to eat within walking distance.... also many clubs within walking distance but I never used them

Curious..I rent my Chengdu 'serviced" apartment for two month periods at a time and pay slightly more than 5000. The apartment would fit the one description used in this lesson...am I paying too much?
