April 8, 2010 at 9:41 AMBritish speakers use the word "university" in coloquial speech much like Americans use the word "college" . For example, a Brit might say "Are you going to university today?" Americans would probably say "Are you going to school today" , even when referring to a college/university. Interestingly, this might be an indicator of Americans' views on education.
