Regarding the lesson format, it seems to me that there are so many lessons available that a diversity of formats/subject matter is inevitable. I certainly like the more utilitarian lessons, and find them very useful. However, I also enjoy these little "pod soaps", as well as lessons involving Ninja's, Godzilla, etc. I think the variety is a tremendous strength Cpod has that many other programs lack. More importantly, I would like to point out this lesson falls nicely in line with my earlier prediction that Yang Jie is going to chew up Wang Wei, spit him out, and leave Li Yan to pick up the pieces. I know your type Yang Jie, ohhh I'm on to your little game.

lalue, I'm not too different from you level-wise, but I'm going to take a crack at this anyway. I'm guessing the official answer is that it's just a character difference. I seem to remember Ken commenting in one of the lessons that Chinese has a lot of homophones, and singling out shi4 in particular. Some of them still give me trouble, but some of them, like these two meanings attached to shi4, I have heard enough that I don't even need to think about which one is being used.

I have a question about the use of 要。 In the expansion you have the following two sentences: 1) 他要走了 2) 你为什么要走 In the first case it indicates an action that is taking place sometime in the future. In the other case, it functions simply as the verb, to want. Is it the 了 that changes the use of 要, or could the second sentence also be translated as "Why are you going to leave" depending on the context?

I see troubled waters ahead. 杨洁 is going to steal 王伟 away from 李燕, break his heart and leave nothing but a pile of ashes for 李燕 to try and sweep up. He'll be damaged goods, and subconsciously sabotage the subsequent on-again/off-again relationship with 李燕, burning up her youth and leaving her a bitter angry old woman. Why, why, WHY must you be so heartless and wreck not one, but two lives, 杨洁!? Or am I getting ahead of myself?

Boy did that relationship question open a can of worms. MikeinEwshot may be right when he suggested it's more of a male/female difference than a cross-cultural problem. Especially telling (and humorous) was the contrast between Amber's opinion (they should communicate more) with Dave's (the whole thing is ridiculous). I started having flashbacks to some of my own domestic conflicts!

I'm with Bazza and TaiPan. I REALLY miss Qing wen in my feed. I was under the impression that the extras are supposed to be in the feed, and that they were trying to fix this problem. Is that not the case?

No comment on the music playing in the background during 请问,but I would like to know what it is. I have found it very difficult to find traditional Chinese music performed by ensembles (lot's of solo artist stuff).
