I think "lock in on" for 锁定 gives a good sense of its meaning in this context. 'Lock in on this station' = 'Stay tuned'.

Incorporating the news report into a conversational dialogue was a great idea! Newscasts tend to be a bit daunting. Maybe if the speakers in the dialogue commented on the report more directly we could hear both formal and informal versions of the same information?

很有用的词汇!(hěnyǒuyòngde cíhuì)

This would make a perfect video lesson (for people like me, whose work prevents them from studying in China)! Loads of great vocab that would be made immediately intelligible by context and actions. Though I guess sound recording would be tough? Worth a try though?

Marek, the vocab is explaining the meaning of the Chinese word tīng "厅", which primarily means "hall" or "reception hall" (especially in a grand building or hotel), but is also used to refer to larger rooms in a house or apartment, such as a living room. (Chinese and English divide the world up differently! So you should expect many Chinese words to have several meanings that are not synonymous in English.) Hope this helps!

Thanks for dealing with some North/South differences. Very useful!

I've been using MS input for years. It has incorporated smart input methods for a while now. I sometimes type first letters alone even for entire sentences.

I also use the input method that's part of the Mac system. That really is badly out of step with the times. I dread having to input Chinese on my Mac. Maybe I should install one of the systems you recommend. I'm assuming they would work on a Mac?

In the States (California, at least), people do sometimes go to a professional studio for this stylish type of portrait, especially family portraits. But I don't think it's anywhere near as common as Jenny describes in China.

Jillian, robertkjr3d was referring to the lesson PDF (which is not premium content). The literal Chinese term for 'period' or 'menses' is not listed in the Supplementary section at the end of the PDF.

《请问》很有用。How about tying in the words, phrases, grammar discussed to surrounding lessons? Different lessons exemplifying different usages, perhaps. Otherwise, the disconnect makes them easy to forget.
