June 29, 2010 at 5:06 PMHa! I had the exact same thing happen to me with a Chinese woman not long ago, that is, she announces that I am shy after a full five seconds.I think Freud required at least ten minutes to make a major personality diagnosis. Anyway, in a Western dating context, this would be a rude thing to say. Is it not considered such in China? I know this is not a language question, but as someone who will be living in China and dating Chinese women I would truly be interested in any feedback.

June 14, 2010 at 2:20 PMIn the discussion, Jenny gave the sentence
我把防晒霜忘在 宾馆了.
What is the justification/rule for using the ba in this case?

June 12, 2010 at 12:54 PMThe sad thing is, the researcher who figured out what the warriors were is tucked away at some small museum (forgot the name) while this farmer is the superstar at the main site. The farmer won't even let you take his picture without paying while the scholar is more than happy to sign books, take pictures and chat.

September 12, 2009 at 9:10 PMTrying to figure out how to use this structure to express: "It's already autumn, I haven't been anywhere." I know the following is incorrect, but can't figure out the correct way.
都求天了,我 还没旅行什么地方

April 5, 2009 at 5:25 PMI can't help but commenting on the attitude of the women towards Pete, because it is noticeably different than that of the women towards the previous guy who used to do QW (forgot his name). The extent to which the women belittle Pete is pretty noticeable. Today, for example, talking about his pants falling down, mentioning his baldness and calling him empty headed. Don't go telling me this is good natured. It's not. It wasn't there with the previous male on QW, whom it was clear the women deferred to. I wouldn't bring this up except I noticed this sort of behavior time and again during my years in China. When Chinese women sense a weakness in a man, they will exploit it ruthlessly. On the other hand, if the man has a position of power, they will defer. If any men are planning on spending any time in China, you need to be aware of this. Pete, the nice guy approach does not work with these women. You need to defend yourself.

June 30, 2010 at 12:37 AMI should have said "am" dating Chinese women and writing about it for an online magazine.
