July 26, 2008, 03:25 PMhahaha! Amber, I love it how your friend actually told them that pushing in line wasn't 文明.
I could see myself getting carried away with that phrase and trying to use it to my own advantage

Pretty tough lesson but this is one that is sorta do-able for an intermediate student... but it takes a while still... maybe I just 吃饱了没事干

Alright, stop. Collaborate and listen. I gotta side with clay here. 冰冰宝宝 is the way to go!

July 20, 2008, 06:55 AMHow could you not enjoy a game of Aussie rules Jenny! It's the greatest game ever! Super fast-paced, heavy contact, yet no protective gear. How good is that :P
澳式橄榄球像很乱,复杂,其实它是特别激动的体育
Good job filling in for Ken there Clay.

I'm starting to notice a recurring theme of popular songs at the end of these Dear Ambers
Can I request a song and see how you guys work it into the next Dear Amber sentence pattern? How about 'My Girl' by the Temptations :P

July 02, 2008, 02:12 PMWhat's with the surgery to stop people from sweating?? What sort of surgery would it be? Take bum tissue and put it over the armpits? haha
Geez, yet people that sweat the most do so because they need to! Surely it can't be healthy to take away one of the body's natural cooling mechanisms

June 15, 2008, 04:50 AMI've heard that rubbing the inside (slimey side) of a banana peel on your mozzie bite helps too.
Never tried it though so I can't confirm how good it is... I almost wished I got a mozzie bite so I could find out. And when I get one, chances are that there won't be any banana skins lying around
Posted on: I Can/Can't Afford it (...得起 & ...不起)
June 10, 2008, 01:02 PMlight487,
I actually think that this was an interesting thing to learn and that's what qingwen's are good for- all those little things that I wouldn't normally pick up. I never would've known that using 得起 and 不起 was about affording stuff.
Clay,
Where's the coffee man!

January 24, 2016, 08:47 PM+1 to kurtjorg's comment. I'm not too bothered either way because we'd have to know how to communicate with people speaking different variations of mandarin, however, it would be great to know a) if we are strictly learning 标准的普通话 and b) when there are exceptions that are more localised to Taiwan or even certain parts of China.
