April 27, 2009 at 3:32 PMAlthough rental prices in Hangzhou are quite low, I remember the deposit fee for me being around 300 kuai4 块. Was that just because I was a foreigner? How do you say "rental deposit"? ya1zu1? 押租?

April 11, 2009 at 7:24 PM不好意思。。。我先听错了。。。听像"清蒸", 例如"清蒸鱼". I'm so embarrassed, hearing incorrectly. It sounded like qing1zheng1, as in steamed fish, particularly when combined with fan4dian4, so I thought you were referring to a steamed food restaurant!

January 17, 2009 at 4:42 PMi echo the gratitude of many others for your remarkable contributions to the chinesepod community, for making chinese study fun, and for making Shanghai a more familiar and interesting place. i've only been to manhattan twice, but thoroughly enjoyed its rich multinational culture, cuisine, entertainment and sights to see. it is also a nice city (for america) in that you won't need a car to get around. you are certain to enjoy and benefit from this new chapter in your life. wishing you happiness, health and success.

December 12, 2008 at 3:04 PMIn response to Jenny's comment near the end of the lesson, I became interested in my "sign" three years ago when I started studying Chinese, an initially thought I was a monkey. It wasn't until a Chinese colleague pointed out that my birthday was after the western new year, but before the Chinese Lunar New Year ( 农历春节 nongli chunjie ) that I am actually a goat. I have characteristics of both, perhaps because my birth is so close to the "crescent" of the two years. Similarly, babies born in 2009, but before January 26, are rats; those born from January 26 until next Lunar New Year's eve are cows / bulls.
