So our users are all welcomed to provide source and pointing out our mistakes. In China, we say: 'teaching benefits students as well as teachers‘.
I will keep looking for more source for 模板 and 模版. :-)

January 29, 2014 at 6:45 AMI would say 查 is more commone to use. And they have difference. 查 is more general for ‘check', 'look into', 'investigate'. 验 is 'examine'. 验 real or fake. 验血。
One good example is :
查票 which is to check if you have ticket.
验票 which is to examine if the ticket is real.
