amber, just got online again for another try. Still immensly slow and not sure it will get anywhere. I guess I will have to be patient and hope that the internet will improve in the next few days.

and I can't download it or open it. Only the first 20 seconds played... What's the problem? I have been unable to download lessons for a week now!!!

that third person thing seems to be very common in China when grown-ups talk to little children. I hear it all the time.

In Sichuan in many places that's possible. They now all have those hot and cold water dispensers. It's just not done. You can always get 开水(kai shui - boiled water) and let it cool down. Or try to order "leng shui, bu yao bing - 来一杯冷水,不要冰" That might do the trick.

pulosm, yes, those little red dictionaries are still around. Just looked up halloween and it is as you said... That aside, I think it is still one of the best for quick look-up of words. For those of us old-fashioned enough to like good old book dictionaries

Wow, I'm impressed. Thanks so much, goulniky. Now I have no excuses anymore. I will no longer just throw my hands up in frustration for not understanding the Chinese. This will help a lot!

goulniky, I really admire you. You are not a full time student, but find all that time and energy to look up words AND make it available to us. Your motivation inspires me.
