December 22, 2008 at 6:27 PMi am going out on a limb, though fearing for my life:), and knowing the videos wont go on like that unfrotunately, i thought it was pretty funny, i learned a bit about bujian and ren and it kept my attention.
i think maybe the only thing was i could have learned a few other radicals and then all would have been good.
but again i thought the video was different, unique, funny and it taught me something. so I am happy.
i think with a bit of humor you can capture evryones attention so I like the new spin on it. and i hope the series does not take forever to take off. more please.
chinesepod you cease to amaze me in all of the great things you do. thanks

and if you left it out what would be the main difference?
also when i say wo chang guo le, what does the guo do in this regard?
thanks

September 21, 2008 at 2:53 AMWeclome pete. You are my hero! And another east coast man on the boards! Allentown PA born myself.
aspiredeath has a great question I would like to know as well. But I assume because of the long time in China, Chinese school and of course CPOD<-----One of God's Gifts to man

September 20, 2008 at 2:39 AMJumped to elementary today. Want more of a challenge and came across this lesson with this little number ----> 又好又便宜. I heard Ken say it means "this" and "that" but I dont see how "this" and "that" melds into the sentence that is translated.
I looked up 又好又便宜 in the dictionary and it sais, again, moreover.
Thanks to all of CPOD and your great help.

September 16, 2008 at 2:35 PMwell scottyb I can see what you are saying and agree the brush is too big! I am from the west and my bad experiences dont come at me in a more personal way but as I have gotten older my point of views and standards of values have sharpened and they have oddly gone away from the values I have actually have been accustomed to all these 24yrs of my life. The argument of the loudest may not speak volumes though, because as a hole the US is perceived around the world as how I described it.
But I do apologize for any "venom" I spouted. Not meaning to offend if I did. And If I did I deeply apologize. I am a westerner that no longer wants to be seen as one and that is my summary. And I respect all of your views, anyone who had something to say back to me. Back to Chinese :)

September 16, 2008 at 3:53 AMRjberki I hope I had not given the impression of blame. I can understand the urge to be more western and it is the east’s decision to take up the garbage values and superficial ways of the west. And you are right, there is nothing wrong with looking good but looking good with what you were born with is I suppose an essential attribute and value in my life. But I don’t believe nature per say has made this important, people have expressed the importance through media outlets and medical procedures such as plastic surgery leaving behind old values. I had given the impression or I hope I did I hold the east to a different standard. I have always lived in the west and it’s a breath of fresh air to see how the rest live since moving to Singapore/Indonesia.
And auntie68. You have a much different look on this then I do especially being that your upbringing is I am sure different then mine. What you see and gravitate to has been molded by how you have grown through life and the same could be said about myself. But what I don’t agree with is the comfort of raising one culture over another and that being wrong or right. Sure there may not be one which is truly right or wrong but I suppose it is all in preference. I don’t need gang bangers and MTV raising my children and drugs and early pregnancy being a precursor to the early years of my child’s life.
And my question is how do you compare the expressions of war to The Rape of Nanking to the absolutely disrespect and utter detesting of one another in a nation built on supposed “freedom” and the great American way. They love their “freedom” that most don’t understand but hold it dearly as something they deserve based on the fact they were born into it. The only freedom that seems to be present is the one to be ignorant.
And I agree the usefulness of other cultures, I just wish the lessons were centered on more of what not to do then lets join the crowd mentality.
And I do not intend on making enemies out of anyone with my views. I am crazy but am tired of the west and its beloved greedy ways with greased up values of the 21st century. But that’s my freedom, right?

September 15, 2008 at 8:23 PMSad day for me as I always held the asian community above the standard garbage of the west. everywhere here in the states everyone wants fake "cans" and too look very superficial and worship MTV and reality television: no substance. I always looked to the chinese culture in its traditions. Its a shame the west has so much influence in the world. Hopefully the chinese dont give up on the credit cards and charge away their life like here in the west.
