绍兴人喝黄酒用“咪”，小口微酌，与绍兴人“拼”黄酒，最怕是经不住那三言两语的挑逗，生楞劲儿一上来，就想一口“闷”。那看似低度数的黄酒，若不知其力，满满一杯一口下肚，几杯过后便会喝得烂醉如泥，翻倒在酒桌上呼呼大睡。
Shàoxīng rén hē huángjiǔ yòng “mī ”，xiǎokǒu wēizhuó ，yǔ Shàoxīng rén “pīn ”huángjiǔ ，zuì pà shì jīngbùzhù nà sānyánliǎngyǔ de tiǎodòu ，shēnglèng jìngr yī shànglái ，jiù xiǎng yīkǒumēn 。nà kànshì dī dùshǔ de huángjiǔ ，ruò bù zhī qí lì ，mǎnmǎn yī bēi yīkǒu to down ，jǐ bēi guòhòu biàn huì hē de lànzuìrúní ，fāndǎo zài jiǔzhuō shàng hūhūdàshuì 。
Shaoxing locals use the Wu dialect word "咪" (mi1) meaning "to sip" to describe drinking huangjiu and they also compete to see who can drink more huangjiu without getting drunk. The most fearful thing is to be unable to resist a few casual words of provocation, when the reckless impulse grabs you to down the alcohol in one to reflect the intimacy between you and your friend. Although the huangjiu may look weak, if you don't know your own strength, as cup after cup go down your belly, after a few, you'll be drunk as a skunk, and you'll be doubled over on the table snoring away.
