North Carolina Attorney General Joshua Stein has filed a lawsuit against leading e-cigarette maker Juul Labs.

The suit alleges that Juul has mislead the public about the health risks of nicotine consumption and has targeted teens in its marketing, The Washington Post reported.

Stein said that Juul has promoted its product using social media influencers, designs, and flavors that are attractive to minors.

He is petitioning to remove flavors like mint, mango, and cucumber from vape shops in North Carolina.

As reported by The Associated Press, Dr. Susan Kansagra of the North Carolina Division of Public Health said that approximately 17 percent of high schoolers in the state use Juul.

Juul recently launched a multimillion dollar ad campaign to rebrand its product as aimed at adults who want to quit smoking cigarettes.

The FDA has not approved Juul or other e-cigarettes as aids to help smokers quit, and little research has been done on the long-term health effects of vaping.
