The Notre-Dame was engulfed by a major fire on Monday evening. The fire burned for several hours causing the collapse of the cathedral’s iconic spire and the destruction of its roof structure. President Emmanuel Macron has vowed that France will launch as international fundraising campaign to rebuild the landmark cathedral.

法国巴黎市中心圣母院于周一傍晚发生严重火灾。
法国内政部长表示，火势持续了数小时，抢救行动中一度动用400名消防人员。

A major fire erupted at the Notre Dame Cathedral in central Paris on Monday evening.
The Ministry of Interior for France said that at one point, as many as four hundred firefighters attended to the blaze that had been burning for hours.
There was no suggestion that the inferno was caused by a criminal act.
The 850-year-old Gothic building had been undergoing renovations and French officials established possible links of the cause to the extensive scaffolding that had been carried out on site.
The landmark cathedral has suffered colossal damages as the massive blaze devastated large parts of the interior.
The fire spread out across the historic building and engulfed the iconic spire.
The 13th century roof soon collapsed, destroying with it the monumental spire and the cathedral’s world-famous stained glass windows.
CNBC reported that French President Emmanuel Macron said that “the worst has been avoided, but the battle isn’t fully won yet” and vowed that France will launch an international fundraising campaign to rebuild the cathedral.
