750 Lessons DVD Question
jimkahl
March 04, 2008, 11:31 PM posted in General DiscussionI posted this question on one of the lessons comments section and after no sufficient response from anyone e-mailed Ken. He suggested starting a conversation thread, so here I am.
After hearing about the CPod DVD with the first 750 lessons, I really want to get my hands on one.
My question is: does the free offer apply to only those people who are new subscribers? I have been a Premium subscriber for about 8 months now and would love to get a copy.
If the offer applies only to new subscribers. I would be more than willing to buy a copy.
Can anyone help me out here?

March 25, 2008, 06:22 PMI have got my CD! Nice picture of Ken and Jenny on the front (If I knew how to paste a picture here I would), case a bit cracked (not an serious issue), just two discs - 1st with newbie, ele & intermediate, 2nd with Upper Inter, Advanced & Media. There is no index but just the bare audio files... Anyhow it looks ok! Chinesepod, thanks at last

March 05, 2008, 06:02 PMthanks trevelyan. So is calkins right in stating that I can get one if I extend my membership? If so, I would be more than happy to do that. I have been considering adding SPod to my membership anyway, I was just planning on waiting until it came time to renew my membership.

March 06, 2008, 07:58 AMStill think it is too bad John's picture didn't make the DVD cover.... they should put his face in the background, kind of like the Star Wars poster with Darth Vader... ha ha. Bazza, here's a project for you to doctor this photo get Jenny, Ken and John in this picture, and any other Cpod cast you want and ChinesePod logo: :)

March 08, 2008, 04:41 PMOK, here's another question. Since I will be traveling to Shanghai (and ultimately to Wuxi) in the near future, can I get one if I stop in for a visit to the CPod studio?

March 08, 2008, 08:12 PMI think you have to download the DVD image and burn it yourself... saves on shipping costs... ha ha (now is that defeating the purpose if anything is)

March 08, 2008, 08:13 PMI think they just might, just might let you into their studio Jimkahl, but you have to bring lots of gifts I hear.

March 08, 2008, 09:44 PMMike that was my fear and why I didnt fall for it. Cpod - send me a dvd and I will sign up for a year. You have my word. -RJ

March 18, 2008, 04:09 AMWell, I don't mind bringing the gifts, as I would intend to do so anyway, if I get the chance to stop by the studio, but I still have not received a satisfactory answer from any of the CPod staff concerning this matter. I mean really, if I can't get a copy, please just tell me so, if I can, then give me some clue as to what I need to do in order to get my hands on one. No offense, I love CPod, but I am beginning to wonder if this isn't just a false advertising scheme to attract more subscribers.

March 05, 2008, 04:57 AMWe're working on figuring out how to ship stuff like DVDs, as well as get physical "starter kits" to bookstores (if anyone works somewhere that might be interested in stocking packages with DVDs/workbooks/etc. drop a note). We're at the stage where we can make the stuff, and are trying to figure out how best to handle shipping and tracking. Once we get this worked out it'll be possible to sell and ship individual packages. Until then then we're handling the shipping in batches - which is why the DVD is offered as part of a monthly promotion, but not individually right now.

March 18, 2008, 01:49 PMI still haven't received my DVD either after subscribing on 15th Feb. I live in Singapore.

March 18, 2008, 03:07 PMI wouldn't count on CPod seeing this thread (sometimes they fall between the cracks). Anyone who hasn't received their DVD should send an e-mail directly to CPod to see what the problem is. A month and a half is definitely too long to wait...you could have downloaded all 824 lessons since then.

March 24, 2008, 09:31 PMSo they actually do exist!! Well, that just brings me back to my original question - how can I get my hands on one? It seems that no one that matters seems to know the answer. If extending my subscription will do it, I would be more than happy to do so, but I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone.

March 24, 2008, 11:31 PMThe ad says extend for one year and you get one. No mystery there - its quite clear. The only problem is only one person has ever reported getting one.

March 25, 2008, 04:07 PMre: RJBerki. I hate to disagree, but... the ad says "sign up" for one year... a small point I know, but there is a difference between signing up for one year and extending your membership for a year... as stated previously, I have been a Premium subscriber for about 8 months already and have actually gone through downloading all the files twice and unfortunately may have to do so a third time. I would like to prevent this if at all possible and have all those files on one medium. Also, if that were the case, why wouldn't someone on the CPod staff simply tell me that if I extend my membership for a year I can get one. Ken simply told me to start a discussion thread. Wouldn't it have been easier for him to tell me this in the first place? I guess at this point, I will just have to give up the hopes of ever obtaining one, and start downloading the files yet again.

March 25, 2008, 04:45 PMJim, I see your point... I have no idea why CPod isn't giving a simple yes or no answer.

March 18, 2008, 12:34 PMI still haven't got my DVD after subscribing on 5th Feb. Replying to my recent email Chinesepod said that it was in the post and I should get it in a couple of weeks. Has anyone out there actually received a DVD?
calkins
March 04, 2008, 11:49 PMI'm pretty sure that anyone can get the DVD...as long as you sign up for a year premium membership. So you could get the DVD now by extending your premium account for another year. I don't think they sell them individually...it's a promotion. BTW Ken, nice marketing touch on telling jimkahl to start a thread...free advertising!
