Cool, 25 metre tall characters (according to Google Earth's tape measure).

bazza: No characters there, right? Or is it some character in it's own right? :-)

There are some places in South Korea where places are almost written in Hanja(漢字).

There's some more at: 22°22'33.84"N 113°55'8.85"E I cheated though really and google searched the largest characters on earth. ;) Oil and water tanks it looks like.

rsmith91: The meanings could be something for us all to decipher. 毛主席万万岁 máo zhǔxí wànwàn suì (Mao Chairman ten thousand ten thousand years) translates as Long live Chairman Mao. As for Dear Amber: What would be the topic? Large characters in the Chinese landscape? Or strange landscape patterns in general?

+42° 39' 33.30", +94° 16' 0.59" Awesome.. ALl the rest are just as awesome.. but I looked at this using Google Maps and searched around the area a little. It's really amazing the detail and technology these days. If you look about 150km to the west of this place, there is a crystal clear lake of water that shines an azure blue..

Aliens. It was all done by aliens. Chinese characters was actually at one time Alien language. Chinese are aliens... the list goes on... So, the Dear Amber questiosn: Due to the craziness of Chinese language, are Chinese Aliens? And why are they trying to put their characters everywhere, even in fields and the ocean?

This is one of the weirder things on Google Earth http://www.gearthblog.com/blog/archives/2006/07/huge_scale_mode.html It's like a huge scale model of some landscape.

Bazza, that IS weird. And I thought the U.S. wasted a lot of its military budget on crazy things.

外星人 !!! Haha.. I actually understood that.. It was a pure guess, and of course the context helped immensely.. but I have been studying my character dictionary a lot too. :)

Interesting stuff Bazza, and thanks for the link Joachim. Why do they put huge Chinese characters in the middle of fields? What do they mean? Maybe this could be an idea for a Dear Amber...
