May 17, 2008, 04:56 AMI heard on the news that there are some fraudulent donation collections set up, and I think they were located in China. Best to donate at a place that you know, or one that was recommended here by those who know. Now we seem to have quite a few good places to choose from.

May 14, 2008, 09:06 AMYeh after I pay a $30 to $40 fee.. Unfortunately I would rather that extra $30 or so dollars go to the Chinese people, not the banks.. I'll try to dig something up, may be on the Red Cross page in Australia for it..

May 14, 2008, 09:09 AMAhh here we go: https://www.redcross.org.au/Donations/onlineDonations.asp I'm sure other countries will have a similar Red Cross site that they can go to and donate as well. Just bear in mind that that links goes to their Donations page.. not just for Chinese Earthquake Relief so make sure you select the thing you want to donate to at the top!

May 14, 2008, 10:51 AMFor those living in China, a fast and secure way to donate is through mobile payment. China Mobile has set up a system where you text any number between 1 to 30 to 10699988, the number you type is the amount of your donation, i.e. between RMB1 to 30. It will go on your phone bill. You will receive a text reply confirming your donation. A few of us at CPod have used this. Every yuan counts.

May 14, 2008, 07:59 PMHere are two more organizations involved with the relief efforts: 1. I know the founder of this ministry, Dennis Balcombe, and it is a worthy ministry with great integrity. They have accounts in China, H.K., Australia, Germany and Switzerland. http://www.rcmi.ac/eng.htm 2. This organization runs orphanages in Central China; they also have international donation accounts: http://www.caringfor.....nation.htm

May 14, 2008, 08:56 AMLight487, For those donating from overseas, you can donate as it lays out on the page. It is a US dollar account, yes, but it can be deposited to from any bank worldwide if you give them the bank information as it is there. The bank will convert the currency for you.

May 16, 2008, 02:45 PMWith the numbers rising, death toll rising, I feel the need to keep this on the top of the conversation list... I posted this on another thread yesterday: "In the end it does not matter so much, where one gives, as long as we allow ourselves to be touched and moved by the human suffering that is happening right now in China and in Myanmar and in other places around the globe... I am working for a small NGO in Sichuan and some of the projects are located right in the epicentre of the earthquake. You can imagine how hugely disturbing these news have been for me. Anyhow, I just heard how we (alpha communities sichuan) are being involved in relief efforts and I wanted to let the Cpod community know. Here is an other channel through which donations can be channelled. Every donation is so appreciated. http://www.alphacommunities.org/earthquake.php

May 16, 2008, 03:27 PMhi everyone, Today, the first round mass donate from students in my college had finished. Although the money is not very much but it shows all the students' heart. We all care about and worry about those people who are suffering this terrible disaster. Except this mass donate organized by my college, students also donate through other ways, like sending text messages. And also, blood is needed. Many volunteers are willing to donate their blood. We believe that we can stand this big disaster if only we can fight together with them.

May 17, 2008, 03:47 AMHello. I'm probably at grave risk by now of being banned by CPOD for trying to appeal on behalf of victims of Myanmar's cyclone Nargis, when China is still reeling from the enormity of her own earthquake tragedy. To try and put things in perspective, the OFFICIAL toll of dead and missing in Myanmar has now been revised upwards, to 128,000 (Red Cross figures). As many as 2 million men, women, and children are at risk because authorised relief efforts are inadequate. Please, every tiny life lost or at risk means the same to me, the life of a Chinese child is as precious to me as the life of a Myanmar child. I am not asking for any actual donations, I am just trying to express in some way the deep sadness in my heart for the people of both countries. As well as my hope that China, as the most important international friend of Myanmar, will be generous and strong enough to help that country to allow aid and aid workers in on the scale that is required for humanitarian reasons. As a Singaporean, I do not mind even if we lend our C190s and chinooks (including full Singaporean crew) to the Peoples' Liberation Army, paste the PRC insignia on everything, and just go in the same way that we did in Aceh after the Tsunami. Amen.

May 17, 2008, 03:50 AMMy sincere wish is that every Chinese person who is feeling the pain from the earthquake will be able to feel compassion for the people who are facing death and loss in the same way in that Southeast Asian nation which they have always supported so strongly. Any help from China and her people will NEVER be forgotten. China is finally powerful enough to help other countries now, even when she is struggling with an enormous domestic disaster, I hope that this will happen.
