Professor Wallace Chafe conducted a studythat showed language differences across seven Chinese dialects. His subjects watched a wordless film of a child stealing pears and afterwards told the story in their own dialects. The movie and recordings of the Chinese speakers are available for viewing and listening.

I enjoyed to listening to the subjects who spoke in my dialect, Xiamen-flavor of Minnan.

very interesting. Would be more so if I could speak several of the dialects. Still fascinating.
