Plus many people are embarrassed in case they write horrible chinese.  I've learnt that if I try and get it wrong then people will generally just help put me right so i'm happy to give it a shot!

我觉得一些民喜欢说的中文不喜欢写的汉语。他们觉得写得中文太难。

Which do you like better, a shallow discussion in (often clumsy) Chinese or a deep discussion in English? So, it's completely up to you and depends on what kind of discussion/thread/comment it is. As for me, a non-native Chinese/English speaker, Cpod forum is a place for learning both Chinese and English, fortunately, hehe.

I think I have a tendency to use English in the comments sections but 汉字 in the activities. But then my Chinese is not yet up to a deeper level conversation! I'd have a book in hand all the time. . .. .that's why the activities are good as they don't allow too many chars (although you can say much more with fewer chars in Chinese)

Unfortunately not many people frequent the activities nowadays (at least at ele level)

Trevorb 好久没见!
I think I've "outgrown" Activity Stream myself because (thanks to all the practice I had in AS) I became bold enough to start posting up here in my error-ridden Chinese. Then the 中文吧 group started up so now I have that place to go to and take part in an all-Chinese conversation or start my own post. Learners of all levels are welcome, the only rule is we have to stick to Chinese, no falling back on English or our native language!

There you go then Changye ! A good pragmatic bit of both and we're all satisfied. You could throw in a bit of Japanese to spice things up for us! But seriously, I sometimes find it quite wearisome typing in Chinese (even with my newly found typing system) and would often love to give up and go off into pinyin. My beloved teacher in Shanghai xiaowei understands my pinyin but, quite rightly, it's looked down upon here. So, if I'm feeling fit it's hanzi and if I'm tired it's English.
